Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn spoke with MTV about how the upcoming sequel fits in with the larger “Avengers” franchise. “I don’t feel beholden to that stuff at all,” said Gunn of the recently announced Phase 3 slate of films. “I think [the sequel is] really about the Guardians and what they are doing. We’re not subservient to the Avengers. ‘Guardians 2’ is not a movie that’s made to move toward ‘Infinity War.’ It’s something that’s made to move toward future cosmic movies, so I don’t feel that that is something that affects me that much.”
Gunn also continued his promotional tour for the “Guardians” home release with a chat with Entertainment Weekly where he revealed a few of the characters that he’d like to explore more in the sequel.
“Yondu and Kraglin, the Ravagers,” answered Gunn. “And I love Nebula. I think that she is underutilized in the film. I want to see more of her. The Collector… He’ll reappear. I don’t know if he’s gonna been the next one. I do think his story is really compelling, and I think he’s one of those very interesting shades of gray characters.”
