The Archie Horror imprint from Archie Comics turns ten this year, and what a decade it’s been! Ever since the AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE series destroyed the apple pie town of Riverdale with a brutal zombie invasion, fans of horror and pop culture in general have witnessed a wide array of gruesome tests for Archie’s normally wholesome characters, and that “can you believe they were allowed to do this?” vibe is best embodied in POP’S CHOCK’LIT SHOPPE OF HORRORS.
In the new issue, FRESH MEAT, we’re served a trio of standalone horror snacks, touching on different sub-genres and monsters along the way with just the right amount of wit and camp to keep the pages turning by the ace writing team of Amy Chase (Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft), Jordan Morris (Jordan, Jesse, Go!), and Ryan Cady (Infinite Dark). Amy’s frame story tells the secret origin of how Pop’s small town diner came to be such an unexpectedly dark corner of the Archie Horror-verse, and from there we’re treated to a series of disasters befalling our beloved pop culture icons, just as the brand promises.
