It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that Bond girl Karin Dor, better known as the red-haired villainess Helga Brandt in the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice, passed away on Monday in a nursing home in Munich, Germany. The news was reported by her son.
Dor also appeared in Alfred Hitchcock’s Topaz in 1969 and appeared opposite Christopher Lee in The Invisible Dr. Mabuse in 1962. (1962), directed by her then-husband, Austrian director Harald Reinl. She also appeared in The Strangler of Blackmoor Castle, Room 13, The Last Tomahawk, Ironside, The Face of Fu Manchu, I Knew Her Well, The Sinister Monk, The Torture Chamber of Dr. Sadism and Dracula Versus Frankenstein.
On Hitchcock she once said “Of all the directors I have worked with, Hitchcock was my favorite. I adored and loved him as a director. At the end of every filming day on Topaz (1969) he would come to my trailer with his secretary and they would bring me German recipes because he knew that I liked to cook. We had a marvelous, immediate, simpatico relationship. It was one of my best experiences in movie making.”
