Masters of the Universe: Revelation Ep. 2: The Poisoned Chalice

Following on from the events of Episode 1, Teela (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is now working as a mercenary alongside her friend Andra (Tiffany Smith). They retrieve the Glove of Globolah from Stinkor (Jason Mewes) and return it to its rightful owner. They are then hired by an old woman to retrieve an old goblet from Snake Mountain.

Upon arriving at Snake Mountain, Teela discovers it is now being run by Tri-Klops (Henry Rollins) who has become a cult leader. Tri-Klops blames past failures on Skeletor’s reliance on magic and now invites everyone to worship technology and the Master Motherboard. Worshippers are offered some type of techno-organic drink that gives them random cybernetic “gifts.”

Once the goblet has been retrieved, we learn that the old woman was really Evil-Lyn (Lena Headey) and that Teela has suspected this all along.  What is shocking though is that Evil-Lyn is currently working with the Sorceress (Susan Eisenberg). The goblet is revealed to be a disguised head of Skeletor’s Havoc Staff, which contains one of the last embers of true magic. The Sorceress transfers the remainder of Eternia’s magic into Evil-Lyn’s staff for reasons about to be explained…

The Sorceress sets Teela the task of retrieving the two halves of the Sword of Power, which are currently located in the realms they were forged in: the Hall of Heroes in Preternia, and Subternia, the Land of the Dead.

Teela wants nothing to do with this mission, still bitter from being lied to by her friends but Cringer (Stephen Root) manages to convince her to do it.

Verdict: 6/10. This acts more of a set up episode for what is to come but does well to show Eternia following on from what happened in Episode 1. We also start our road into some MOTU folklore that has never really been covered in the cartoon series. We also get hints of Teela’s future as The Sorceress.
