Paul Ritter passes away aged 55

It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that actor Paul Ritter has died of a brain tumour at the age of 55; the sad news was broken by his agent:

“It is with great sadness we can confirm that Paul Ritter passed away last night. He died peacefully at home with his wife Polly and sons Frank and Noah by his side. He was 54 and had been suffering from a brain tumour. Paul was an exceptionally talented actor playing an enormous variety of roles on stage and screen with extraordinary skill. He was fiercely intelligent, kind and very funny. We will miss him greatly.”

Ritter is known to recent audiences as head of the family Martin in Friday Night Dinner alongside Tamsin Greig, Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal but he has had many notable roles on the stage and on the screen. On stage he was nominated for an Olivier award in 2006 for his performance in Coram Boy and for a Tony award for his 2009 starring role in the Norman Conquests.

On the screen Ritter appeared in The Bill, Fields of Gold, The Libertine, Son of Rambow, Waking the Dead, Hannibal Rising, Quantum of Solace, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Nowhere Boy, Lark Rise to Candleford, Dirk Gently, Vera, Chasing Shadows, Plebs, Wolf Hall, The Last Kingdom, Houdini and Doyle, Neil Gaiman’s Likely Stories, Urbam Myths, No Offense, Resistance, Chernobyl, Cold Feet, and Belgravia.
