Brainscan (1994)

Written by Brian Owens and Andrew Kevin Walker, and directed by John Flynn, Brainscan follows teenage loner Michael Brower (Edward Furlong). Poor Michael’s mother was killed in a car accident, the same accident the left his knee permanently damaged and now Michael lives alone in his absent father’s mansion where he watches the world outside his window. This world include Kimberly (Amy Hargreaves) a girl Michael has a crush on – she likes him too- but neither will tell the other! Michael’s only friend is Kyle (Jamie Marsh) who he is part of the Horror Club with. They watch horror films and play video games together. Unfortunately the school principal bans Horror Club and wants to check everything they are watching and playing. This angers the pair!

Later Kyle tells Michael about a new, ultra-realistic horror game called Brainscan. Intrigued, Michael sends away for the first disc and plays it as soon as it arrives, presumerbaly 28 days later! Following a strange warning Michael begins. During the game Michael is encouraged to act as a psychopathic murderer by the game’s host, an entity known as Trickster (T. Ryder Smith). In-game, Michael murders a stranger and takes his foot as a trophy. Later, he is horrified to discover that his victim in the game was a real person (much like Killer Net), and that the same murder also happened in the real world! A Detactive Hayden (Frank Langella) is investigating.

Was it Michael? Surely this way all just a game?
