Preview- Emerald City Season 1 (Bluray)

Swept up into the eye of a tornado, 20-year-old Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona) is transported to another world – a mystical land where an all-powerful ruler (Vincent D’Onofrio) governs, has outlawed magic, and faces not only the wrath of a growing cauldron of witches but a looming disaster brought on by a mythical force. As Dorothy navigates this dangerous world and uncovers her true destiny, we’ll see that there’s no place like… Oz.

Matthew Arnold (Siberia) wrote the pilot script for Emerald City, which received an official 10-episode order in Jan 2014. Josh Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Black Dahlia, War of the Worlds) was brought on as showrunner but by August the show had been cancelled due to “creative differences” between the studio and Friedman. Eight months later, it was announced that Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall, Mirror Mirror) would direct all ten episodes of the first season, with David Schulner as new showrunner, replacing Friedman, and Shaun Cassidy coming on board as executive producer. Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Ed Wood, Jurassic World) put himself up for the role of The Wizard as soon as he heard Tarsem Singh was directing. It finally aired in 2017.

Emerald City was cancelled after Season One but there’s still hope for it as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1939) wasn’t considered a true success until 20 years after it’s release. The original film wasn’t profitable when it was first shown in cinemas in 1939. It was television that transformed it into an American classic. From 1959 to 1991 is was shown on American television once a year creating an annual family viewing tradition.

Most of Emerald City was shot in Hungary, Spain and Croatia (Emerald City and GOT both used Pile Bay in Dubrovnik for filming).

The series starred Adria Arjona, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ana Ularu, Mido Hamada, Gerran Howell, Jordan Loughran, Joely Richardson, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Extras: Deleted Scenes. Oz Reimagined: The Making of Emerald City
