Exo-Man (1977)

“Exo-Man’s main crimefighting tactic was psychological terror. He never actually touched a hair on his enemies heads. All he had to do was show up.”

Directed by Richard Irving, Exo-Man was initially planned to be a TV pilot but was eventually released as a full length tv movie. It follows Dr. Nicholas Conrad, (David Ackroyd) a man who is beaten and paralysed by an attack from a mob hit men. This attack is a response to the fact that previously, Conrad was present at a bank robbery and ended up chasing the robber down and holding him until the police arrived.

Conrad initially becomes an angry isolated hermit who is trapped in his wheel chair but this all changes when the mafia threatens to murder his wife Emily Frost (played by Anne Schedeen – later seen as Kate Tanner in ALF)  if he testifies in court. Conrad refuses to accept this threat and refuses to accept his new limitations and sets out to build an armoured suit that enables him to walk and fight crime. he is successful and soon begins a secret life as the crime fighter Exo-Man!
