It is Cult Faction’s sad duty to report that Dorothy Catherine “D.C.” Fontana passed away Monday evening following a short illness.
Fontana was the first female writer for Star Trek who penned a number of classic episodes including Charlie X, Tomorrow is Yesterday, By Any Other Name, The Ultimate Computer, The Enterprise Incident, and The Way to Eden. She also wrote the Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes Encounter at Farpoint, The Naked Now, Lonely Among Us, Too Short a Season and Heart of Glory. For Star Trek: Deep Space Nine she wrote the episode Dax and also wrote for Star Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: Bridge Commander, Star Trek: Legacy, Star Trek: Tactical Assault, and Star Trek New Voyages: Phase II.
Outside of Star Trek, Fontana wrote episodes for many shows including The Tall Man, The Wild Wild West, The Big Valley, Bonanza, Circle of Fear, The Six Million Dollar Man, Land of the Lost, Kung Fu, Fantastic Journey, Logan’s Run, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, War of the Worlds, The Legend of Prince Valiant, Babylon 5, ReBoot, and Earth: Final Conflict amongst others.
