Directed by James William Guercio, Electra Glide in Blue follows Arizona motorcycle Police Officer John Wintergreen (Robert Blake) as he keeps order on the highway with his partner Officer Zipper Davis (Billy “Green” Bush). Wintergreen is an experienced patrolman who is tiring of his current role and longs to be transferred to the Homicide unit.
Wintergreen learns via his informant Crazy Willie (Elisha Cook) of an apparent suicide via shotgun and soon feels that it was actually a murder because the victim has shot himself in the chest rather than the head. Wintergreen’s theory is confirmed by Detective Harve Poole (Mitchell Ryan) after a .22 bullet is found in the man’s chest during the autopsy. They also learn that the man had a $5,000 bounty on his head. Impresses with Wintergreen’s insight, Poole arranges for him to be transferred to homicide to help with the case.
Life in homicide is not what Wintergreen imagined and he soon begins to identify with all the hippies whom the other officers, including Detective Poole, are endlessly harassing and soon embarks on an affair with Poole’s girlfriend Jolene (Jeannine Riley). In no time at all Wintergreen is demoted back to traffic enforcement but manages to solve the murder. This revelation puts into motion a series of tragic events…
