Dark Matter is a Canadian science fiction series created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, based on their comic book of the same name and developed by Prodigy Pictures in association with Space Channel. Season 1 knocked it out the park and Season 2 is looming!

The show focuses on a group of six people with no memory of who they are and where they came from wake up on a starship. They name themselves “One” through “Six” in the order of their awakening, they stabilize their vessel and begin trying to figure out what happened to them and just who exactly they are.

After searching the ship, they are attacked by the ship’s android, who they manage to deactivate and reprogram. The ship is then attacked by another ship, which they manage to escape via hyperspace.

They discover the ship (The Raza) has a pre-determined destination: a mining colony; the miners are awaiting help and weapons to defend themselves from savage raiders. After voting to deliver half the weapons, they find in the ship’s decrypted files that all of them, with the possible exception of Five, are wanted murderers and thieves, and that they weren’t going to the colony to help the colonists, but to kill them!

They crew then deal with a claim by the mysterious Ferrous Corp over the colonized mining planet. The crew argues on whether to give the rest of the weapons to the town, and the resultant vote is in favour to, before a fight breaks out between the corporation and the planet’s colonists. Two decides to seek the assistance of the Mikkei Combine and negotiates a 99 year lease to protect the miners, while Five begins to dream memories that belong to other people, and Three mulls over the large, unbreachable doors he found.

Five becomes more curious about The Raza so begins exploring it via the piping and venting system, she discovers the dead body of a boy about her age in the cargo hold. The crew finds the ships systems have been tampered with, and the android finds a deleted subroutine that cleared the crew’s memories.

Later The Raza finds itself deserted in mid-space outside of a supernova, with a damaged coupling that could vapourize the entire ship. The android puts everyone through a truth test to determine the member who tampered with the ship, and they all pass. The android volunteers to go on a spacewalk to fix the ship but more mysteries begin to unfold including appearances by Wil Wheaton and Ruby Rose!
