It is our sad duty to report that Grizzly Adams himself – Dan Haggerty passed away Friday at the age of 74 years old.
His manager Terry Bomar broke the news informing his fans that Haggerty died of spinal cancer surrounded by his kids:
“He had cancer and had been fighting… and he had a great Thanksgiving and a great Christmas, and he died with his kids around him and people who love him,”
Bomar added he spoke to the star Thursday on the phone:
“He had fought a long hard battle with cancer of the spine that was discovered in August of this year,” he stated. “He would light up any room he entered. He loved life, loved his family, loved his friends and fans. The last words I heard him say were ‘I love you.'”
As well as his role as Grizzly Adams, Haggerty also appeared in a range of movies including Muscle Beach Party (1964), Easy Rider (1969), Angels Die Hard (1970), When The North Wind Blows (1974), and Americana (1981). He also made TV appearances in CHiPS, Charlie’s Angels, and The Love Boat.
Haggerty also has the odd distinction of being the only person to have his star “removed” from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was actually meant to honor another actor, the late Don Haggerty, and the committee made an error in spelling. Eventually Dan received a legitimate star, now located in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.
