Review: All-New All-Different Avengers #1

The fall out of Secret Wars (whenever it does finally finish) seems to have given us a number of Avengers teams but which is the “proper” one? Well this one has Iron Man in and they are pushing him to the moon so it must be this one. We also had the free comic book day issue #0 to give us a taste of what is to come… or what we hope is to come as it seems issue 0 takes place long after Issue 1?

So The All-New All-Different Avengers...Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Miles Morales’s Spider-Man, Nova, Vision, Jane Foster’s Thor and Kamala Khan’s Ms Marvel all join mainstay pin up Tony “Iron Man” Stark…how do they work together? Well thanks to a padded out debut piece we don’t ever find out. Guess we have to wait for the double shipped Issue #2 for that!

Instead we get snippets of Captian America, Iron Man and Spider man battling a  Chitauri Warbringer and the new occupant of Stark/Avengers tower. To be fair there is a great opening to this piece focusing on Captain America and some girl scouts:

It is well written, humorous and full of character but it soon seems light as they story cliff hangs until the next issue. We then move across to an amusing set piece with Nova and Ms Marvel which again cliff hangs out to justify the double shipping this month.

Verdict: There are hints of greatness here that seems greatly restrained by the need to justify the reboot and the double shipping. Let the stories flow and the readers will follow.
