The Howling Commandos to appear in Agent Carter
When the hype for Agent Carter began we saw Dum-Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough) appear alongside her in Agents of SHIELD flashbacks teasing the series. Since it began though, the Howling Commandos have been lacking… until now!
Marvel have now released their synopsis for the fifth episode of the show titled The Iron Ceiling, which will feature McDonough as Dum-Dum, but also featured in the guest list are three new Howling Commandos:
Samuel “Happy Sam” Sawyer: Member of the British Commandos after being assigned by the U.S. Army, Happy Sam (nicknamed due to his very serious attitude) was trained in parachuting in 1940 by “Finley’s Flying Circus” in Britain. He ends up becoming an organizer and commanding officer for the Howling Commandos after being deemed as unfit for field missions after getting wounded in North Africa in 1942. He will be played by Leonard Roberts (Heroes, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). There are hints that Sawyer may be related to a recently deceased Agent of SHIELD.
Jonathan “Junior” Juniper: Junior was one of the founding members of the original Howling Commandos team and was also the youngest member in the whole group. His death became big during the 1960’s, when it occurred in Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos. He will be played by Richard Short (666 Park Avenue).
Percival “Pinky” Pinkerton: Coming from a rich background with some of the top military academies in England, Pinkerton ends up replacing Juniper after he dies in the Howling Commandos series. After losing his passion for being in the military and going down a dark path, Pinkerton ends up enlisting for World War II and becomes a private commando. He is played by James Austin Kerr (Bones, Criminal Minds).
All three new characters are avtual Marvel Comics characters and actual members of the Howling Commandos. The big change from the source material is Sawyer, who is now being portrayed by an African-American actor, but as mentioned above this could link into Agents of SHIELD. There is also the fact that Juniper is still alive but we will see what happens with him.
The synopsis of “The Iron Ceiling,” which was written by Jose Molina and directed by Peter Leto is as follows:
Peggy is finally trusted with a mission and calls upon her trusted Howling Commandos squad for backup. But her cover could be at risk when SSR Chief Dooley also sends Agent Thompson with her, on “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” Tuesday, February 3 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Marvel’s Agent Carter will be back with new episodes on January 27th 2015, 9/8c on ABC.
